The other day we stopped by as the moving truck was unloading…. to welcome our buyers.
One of the toughest parts of moving is unpacking and getting settled. Our new homeowners had contracted with an unpacking company whose job it was to organize the kitchen and make the beds … in three hours. And we watched them whip through and settle these homeowners in.
Day 1 : The unpackers worked for 3 solid hours. They scrubbed and cleaned the kitchen, lined the cabinets and drawers, unpacked the kitchen boxes and organized the kitchen. In that same timeframe they made the beds , emptied the wardrobe boxes into the closets, and disposed of the boxes. Three hours … and a team of unpackers … That was Day 1… which meant that Day 2 the new home owners could wake up, make coffee, and have breakfast at home!
Day 2 : The unpackers came back again more detailed organizing of the closets, drawers, knicknacks … and decorating.
Moving companies pack and transport belongings, and unload the items into the appropriate rooms . Unpacking is left to the homeowner … unless you or your relocation company hires an unpacking company. Wouldn’t having an UNPACKING COMPANY make for a decadently nice housewarming gift?
Unpacking companies can also declutter the house you’re selling, and can pack and store items that ought not stay. They can get rid of stuff (in much the same way a professional stager might). Unpacking companies can and do handle estate sales, as well as pre-moving packing and organizing. But watching them sweep through the house in a matter of hours, unpacking the kitchen (which was loaded last into the moving truck in order to come off first) was nice. The homeowners could pile into bed that night, and wake up the next morning knowing they’d be able to make a cup of coffee in their own kitchen .
