This morning, there were a pair of beautiful big, round, yellow eyes, staring down from the areca palms on our back patio… a tiny barn owl. When we moved to Miami nineteen years ago (from New York), another little barn owl sat perched on our front gate post while we unpacked stuff from the car. That owl stayed there for hours … We schlepped boxes into our Coral Gables home… and he/she ‘watched’.
Years later, we moved down the road a bit, to Pinecrest. Half a dozen owls lived in the palms at the back of our ‘new’ home. Apparently their home was our backyard, long before that backyard ever belonged to us. We’d watch them hunt in our yard at night , and felt privileged to get even a glimpse of them. Out of the blue, they disappeared. I think our landscaping changes caused them to search out new hunting grounds. We missed them!
Some say owls bring bad news. I’ve always LOVED owls! As a kid, my dad would carry me out to the porch late at night to listen to them hooting . We lived in the hills of Silverlake, on the “outskirts” of Los Angeles….near Griffith Park. Fond memories of owls… I admit!)
I was jumping for joy this morning… seeing the owl in our areca palms again. Bearer of bad news? Who says? WHOOO knows… Depends on where your sitting I think… Depends on whether you’re buying or selling!
