Having worked with home-buyers over the years, The Restivo’s have a handful of tried-and-true tips for a housewarming party:
Keep it simple … Make it fun … On the menu: Wine and Cheese
Cheeses: Limit yourself to three to five different cheeses. Anything more than that is overwhelming to the palate. For each type of cheese, buy one ounce per person.
Wines: Choose one red, and one white … and make them somewhat versatile. If you’re inviting 12 guests you’ll need about 4 bottles of each.
Crackers & Bread: Get a couple boxes of crackers, and slice a French baguette into rounds. If you want to be more creative than than, you can brush the baguette slices with olive oil and toast them … or use a European-style walnut-raisin bread from a top local bakery.
Fruit: Snip the bunches into small clusters. (You can certainly add sliced nectarines or apples as well).
Honey: Some of the stronger, more pungent cheeses are complimented by the sweetness of honey.
Sun-dried tomatoes: These mesh well with soft, mild cheeses – for example goat cheese or chevre.
Dried Sausage, Prosciutto or Pate’: Some of your guests may want a little something other than cheese.
Nuts: Salted, roasted, shelled.
Gerkins … Olives: The flavors and textures contrast and compliment the rest of the menu.
… wine glasses… an opener…
