There are many uses for baking soda other than cooking or deodorizing the fridge. Vicky Lansky created a book on the many ways to use the powder, things you may not have thought of. Here are some ways to use it!

To Wash Your Food: On a clean sponge, make a paste of baking soda and wash toxins off fruits and veggies. Make sure you rinse them well before you eat.

Clean Your Drain: Baking soda may not be as strong as commercial drain cleaners, but this way inexpensive. Pour half a cup of the baking soda down the drain, followed by half a cup of white vinegar. Then place a glass bowl over the drain for two hours. Once that’s done, rinse with hot water. It should remove buildup that’s in your pipes.

Vacuum Odors & Welcome Mats: Sprinkle it on the floor and then vacuum up the powder. Do the same thing on welcome mats at your door.

BakingSodaSoft Hands: While washing dishes, turn baking soda into paste and use it on your hands. It helps get rid of tough messes while softening your hands.

Old, Musty Books: Sprinkle the baking soda between the pages, let sit for a few days, then brush it out.

Mothball Smell: If you add 1/2 cup of baking soda to your washing machine’s rinse cycle, you can eliminate the mothball smell.

Grease and Oil:  Sprinkle the powder in your garage to get rid of oil and grease.

Eliminate Weeds: Sweep large amounts of the baking soda into the cracks of your driveway and walkways. This will eliminate dandelions and pesky weeds.

Burnt Pots: Burned the pan? Pour in a thick layer of baking soda, add about an inch of water, and put the pot on the stove to boil. After you boil it for a minute, try scrubbing the pot again…the mess should come right off.

Plastic Shower Curtains:  Put the curtain in the washing machine along with a couple towels. On the gentle cycle, add a half a cup of baking soda and detergent (during the wash cycle). During the rinse cycle, add one cup of white vinegar and then let drip dry.

We can use baking soda for so many things! If you have more tips, plese share them with us! For any of your real estate needs, contact us here.
